For the month of April, both Food Lion stores in Greenwood, SC are collecting donations of dry pet food for the Greenwood County Animal Shelter (operated by the Humane Society of Greenwood). Since 2005 the Society had been receiving free food supplies from pet food manufacturers; however, the availability of those free foods have all but ended as those companies have improved their processes in order to reduce costs associated with production “overruns.”
Food donations can be placed in the collection bins located at the front entrance of the Greenwood Food Lion stores. The Society is requesting donations of Purina or Pedigree (Whiskas for cats) products in order to provide a consistent diet that will maintain good digestive health for the animals. They need dog, puppy, cat, and kitten dry foods. All donations are tax-deductible.
